ALTAMONTE SUMMER BAND CAMP 2010
June 14 – July 1
The ALTAMONTE SUMMER BAND CAMP is back, offering instruction to students who will be enrolling in band at either Teague or Rock Lake Middle Schools. The classes scheduled are as follows:
 Beginners - 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Cost $65.00
 Advanced -10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cost $85.00
*A Summer Band Camp T-Shirt will be included if registration is received by May 7.
Classes will begin on Monday, June 14, and will end on Thursday, July 1. All students will meet in the band room (Monday through Thursday) at Teague Middle School located at 1350 McNeil Road in Altamonte Springs. On the final day of classes (Thursday, July 1), both bands will perform in a concert scheduled to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Teague Gymnasium.
Beginning Band is open to all students who will be attending one of the above schools in the fall. They will have the advantage of separate classes for like instruments taught by specialist teachers. While summer band is not required in order for students to take band in middle school, those who start in the summer tend to have an edge over those who wait until the fall. No previous musical experience is required, although many experienced players take this opportunity to learn a second instrument.
The Beginner Instrument Tryout and rental Open House will be held on Wednesday, June 9, in the Teague Band Room from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you cannot make this time, please call the band director at your school to make other arrangements, as instrument selection and rental must take place before the start of camp.
DO NOT RENT AN INSTRUMENT WITHOUT DIRECTOR APPROVAL.
Advanced Band is for those students with at least one year of playing experience on a band instrument. They will have one hour of section rehearsal with a specialist teacher, and one hour of full band each day. They will learn new concert music in a relaxed summer atmosphere, without the pressures of testing or grades. All music will be provided. This is extremely good experience or those that are just finishing beginning band. These students will improve their playing during the summer, while the skills of those not attending will tend to deteriorate. One of the major reasons that these schools boast very fine bands is the large number of students who attend summer band.
A concert featuring both groups will be held at Teague on Thursday, July 1, at 7:00 p.m. All students enrolled by May 7 will receive an Altamonte Summer Band T-shirt to wear to the concert and keep.
The camp directors are Gary Bottomley, band director at Teague and Kerry Couch, band director at Rock Lake. Other staff members are drawn from outstanding local private teaches.
